Devices

What one device has installed and used, and how to retire or uninstall it.

Open a device from its client's Devices tab, or search for its hostname.

The header shows whether it is online, its operating system, model, serial number, users, agent version and last report. A device is online if it checked in within the last few minutes. Below that, a line says how the last audit or uninstall request went.

If the device has not reported for 72 hours, the page shows what was last found.

Four tiles sum up the device: Not allowed, High risk, AI tools and AI services online.

Agent version

On a Mac or Windows device, if a newer version of the agent has been published, the version in the header shows in amber with the newer one beside it.

When the agent has tried to update itself, a line under the header says how it went:

  • "Updated itself to" a version, and when.
  • "Installing" a version, while the update runs.
  • "Couldn't update to" a version, with the reason.

See Agent updates.

Tabs

  • AI tools: each tool on the device, how it was found, its risk and its policy. Select Details for each location, by user. Tools that were removed, dismissed or not used online for 30 days are under Previously found.
  • Network activity: the AI services the device connected to. See Network use.
  • Timeline: what changed on the device and when.

Audit now

Select Audit now to ask the device to scan and report straight away. See Audits.

Retire a device

Retire a device that has been replaced or left the client. Only admins can retire.

Open the device and select Retire device, the archive icon beside Audit now.

Press and hold Hold to retire.

The device stops reporting and leaves every list and figure. It stops counting towards the trial limit straight away. On the bill it counts up to and including the day it was retired.

Retiring does not remove the agent. To remove it, uninstall Lodestar instead.

To bring a retired device back, enrol it again into the same client with a valid token. It returns with its history. Enrolled into a different client, it becomes a new device.

Uninstall Lodestar

Only admins can uninstall from the console. It works on Mac and Windows devices.

Open the device and select Uninstall Lodestar, the package icon beside Audit now.

Press and hold Hold to uninstall.

The agent removes Lodestar the next time the device is online, and the device is then retired automatically. If the device does not come online within 7 days, the request expires and the device stays enrolled.

While the device has not picked up the request, select Cancel uninstall to stop it. The activity log records the cancellation as "Cancelled an audit". Once the button reads Uninstalling…, the device has the request and it cannot be cancelled.

Cancelling an audit on the device, or the audits at its client, also cancels an uninstall that is still waiting. Requesting an uninstall cancels any audit in progress on the device.

Linux devices cannot be uninstalled from the console yet. The request fails with "Uninstall isn't supported on Linux yet" and the device stays enrolled. Remove Lodestar on the device instead.

If you deploy Lodestar through Intune or another MDM, remove the assignment too. Otherwise the MDM installs it again.

To uninstall by hand on the device, see Uninstall.
