Deploy the agent

Datto RMM

Deploy Lodestar with a Datto RMM component and site variables.

Datto runs a component: a script with its variables. Datto passes site variables to the script, so one component serves every client.

The script downloads the current installer, installs or upgrades Lodestar, and enrols the device only if it is not enrolled yet. It is safe to run on a schedule.

Create the components

Create one component for each platform.

In Datto RMM, go to Automation > Components and select New Component.

Name it "Lodestar - install (Windows)" or "Lodestar - install (macOS)", in the Applications category.

Set the script type to PowerShell for Windows or Bash for macOS.

Download the script from the steps the console shows for Datto RMM: install-lodestar-windows.ps1 or install-lodestar-macos.sh.

Paste in the script.

Under Variables, add LodestarServer and LodestarToken as strings, with no default values.

Save.

Leave Files empty, so the script installs the current release. To hold devices on one version, attach that installer under Files and switch off agent updates.

Set the values for each client

Open the client's site and go to Settings > Variables.

Add LodestarServer with the console address.

Add LodestarToken with that client's enrolment token, and mask it.

Run it

  • Existing devices: run the component as a Quick Job on the site's devices.
  • New devices: schedule the component on the site, for example daily.

When a new release is published, devices with agent updates on usually update themselves first. The next scheduled run installs it on any that have not. See Agent updates.

Macs

An RMM cannot approve the Mac network monitor. Deploy the client's MDM profile through its MDM too, or ask the user to approve it once. See The Mac network monitor.

If it fails

The script ends with a message and an exit code. See Troubleshooting.
