Getting started

Add a client

Set up a client and get its first devices reporting.

A client is one organisation whose devices you watch. If you watch your own company, a client can be an office or a team. Each client has its own devices, findings, policies, settings and enrolment tokens.

Admins and staff can add a client. Staff stop after the name: only admins see the token and deploy steps.

When your trial starts, Lodestar opens on New client for your first client.

Open Clients and select New client.

Under Client name, enter the client's name as your team knows them, then select Create client. The client exists from this point.

Under How will you deploy?, choose how you install software. One-line install is the quickest way to try a first device.

Choose Macs or Windows PCs.

Under Enrolment token, select Copy token. Lodestar keeps only a hash of it, so it cannot be shown again.

Follow the Steps shown, with the token filled in. See Deploy the agent.

Select Wait for the first device. The page shows when the device enrols and when its first report arrives.

Select Go to client.

For an RMM, How will you deploy? lists Datto RMM, N-able N-central or N-sight, ConnectWise Automate or RMM, NinjaOne and Another RMM. Intune or JumpCloud and By hand are there too.

To deploy later, select Skip for now to go to the client. Its Enrolment tab has the same ways to deploy.

The first token

The deploy step creates a token for you, labelled after the way you chose: for example One-line install or Datto RMM. It never expires. You can revoke it later.

Create another token makes a new one. The earlier token keeps working until you revoke it.

For Intune or JumpCloud on Macs, no token is shown. The MDM profile you download carries its own.

After the first device

The client page shows a Getting started checklist until the first device has reported and you have reviewed its high-risk tools. It goes a week after the first report, done or not.

You cannot rename or delete a client in the console yet.

Your own company

Your own company can be a client too. An admin marks it on the client's Settings tab, under Your own organisation, with Mark as our own organisation.

Up to 25 of its devices are free. Only one client can be marked at a time.

Next, enrol the client's devices.
